Who should take the class?
Technicians with basic proficiency in the safe handling and operation of electric chain hoists, whose responsibilities may include inspection, load testing, troubleshooting, and repair of Lodestar & Prostar electric chain hoists.
Or
Technicians with prior cm-et certifications, who wish to recertify and update their skills to align with the modern technologies cm-et has implemented in Lodestar & Prostar electric chain hoists.
Course Overview
This two-part online course addresses the following topics, as they relate to CM-ET classic & next generation Lodestars, and Prostars.
• Service classifications & industry standards, and how they apply to the entertainment industry
• Guided process for frequent & periodic inspections
• Load testing
• Electrical design and wiring diagrams
• Advanced troubleshooting and preventive maintenance
• Accessing components for repair and replacement
Testing and Completion
The training concludes with a knowledge assessment. Participants who score 80% or higher will be awarded a cm-et motor mechanic certification, valid for three years. The certification will be issued digitally, for download, and will include a unique certification id number and the name of the certified technician, as provided at the time of signup. ETCP certified technicians can earn 6 renewal credits, upon successful completion of this training.

About the Instructor
Brian Leister is a Senior Technical Trainer with Columbus McKinnon Corporation, specializing in entertainment rigging, rope access, and hoist maintenance. He has sixteen years of experience as a rigging professional in the entertainment industry and is ETCP Arena certified rigger and an ETCP recognized trainer, with twelve years of industrial rope access experience as a SPRAT 3 / IRATA 3 Certified Rope Access Technician. The advancement and sharing of knowledge are Brian’s greatest passions.
Agenda
Our Rigger Boot Camp focuses on the practical skills and tools necessary to work as an entertainment rigger in the live event industry. Each section of this workshop incorporates hands-on activities, to enhance the learning experience.
Essential Knots, Bends, & Hitches
Rope is a rigger’s most versatile and indispensable asset. Like any other tool, it is only as effective as the person using it. This one-day course covers a variety of knots, bends, and hitches essential to the day-to-day activities of an entertainment rigger. Students will learn how to build a variety of mechanical advantage systems for safely hauling and lowering loads.
Wire Rope Fundamentals
No matter what type of rigging you do, wire rope is a critical component to the overhead attachment and movement of loads. This training will teach you how to identify and select wire rope, as well as how to make safe and effective terminations and splices in wire rope. Hands-on activities include crimping, reeving splices, Flemish eye, and use of wire rope clips.
Rigging Hardware & Truss Inspection
This new edition to the curriculum provides practical techniques for inspecting a variety of rigging hardware and aluminum truss.
Rigging Math 101
This workshop combines classroom and hands-on practical exercises to teach fundamental rigging math. This class uses the same standardized formulas, as those provided for the ETCP Rigging - Arena exam. The hands-on component has participants assemble a truss structure and apply the loads. Thereafter, students apply the formulas, after which they will turn on the load cells to compare their load estimations.
Rigging Math 101 addresses the following scenarios:
• Uniform and point loads on determinate and indeterminate structures
• Cantilevered loads.
• Bridles of equal and unequal height.
Fall Protection Authorized User
Falls remain the leading cause of worker fatalities, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Learn how to protect yourself while working at height and stay up to date on the most recent fall protection regulations, standards, and equipment.
This training goes beyond online courses, utilizing practical applications and hands-on activities to demonstrate proper practices and ultimately keep you safe on the job.
• Attendees are encouraged to bring their own fall protection equipment.
• Attendees will also participate in structure climbing and a rescue scenario.
Safe Rigging Techniques
From the ground to the beam, participants will learn how to build and use a variety of rigging assemblies for safe attachment to truss and structures. This is where we take all the skills and knowledge learned so far and apply them to real-world scenarios.

This 5-day SPRAT training and evaluation course is designed to provide recognition and credibility to rope access technicians. This course will cover the necessary skills for either Level 1, 2 or 3 SPRAT certification, as it applies to each participant. Students who pass the evaluation, in accordance with SPRAT Certification Requirements, will be awarded a SPRAT certification, which is valid for three years.
This SPRAT Certification will allow the student to perform rope access work appropriate to one of the three levels, as described in the SPRAT Certification Requirements for Rope Access Work.
All equipment required for training will be provided. Participants who wish to use their own equipment may be permitted on a case-by-case basis, prior to training sessions. All such equipment must be in serviceable condition, with up-to-date inspection records. Some equipment may be denied if it does not conform to current safety standard or if it is dissimilar to equipment being used by the group.
SPRAT fee of $100 per student included with tuition.
