Michael Matthews Becomes 5th Technicianto Gain All Four Certifications
Michael Matthews, M.F.A. - Michael started practicing stagecraft in his first week of high school. From the age of 14 it became clear what would be his career. He continued on to receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre with a technical concentration in 2001 from Longwood University in Virginia. In August of the same year he moved to New York City where he began freelancing as a rigger for the fall fashion shows. Since that time Michael has served as a Head Rigger, Production Carpenter, Master Electrician, Technical Director, and Production Supervisor for shows and events in a wide range of venues including Broadway theaters, arenas, convention centers, ballrooms and temporary outdoor installations. He holds an Interdisciplinary Master of Fine Arts degree from Arizona State University in Theatre and Arts, Media and Engineering. He currently serves as the Head Electrician for the Ziff Ballet Opera House at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County. Michael is a proud member of IATSE local 500 in South Florida where he also conducts training in safety, electrics, rigging, and A/V skills.
