Rigging Training with Jonathan Deull
Trenton Circus Squad will host a Rigging Training Weekend Workshop starting on May 19th to May 20th. This intensive workshop is specifically for aspiring riggers, circus arts educators, performers and technical stage hands.
Workshop Overview:
This two-day, hands-on workshop will blend theory and practice, providing a comprehensive introduction to the principles and practices of flying performers safely.
This workshop will not make you a qualified rigger. It will, however, help you to be safer and more responsible as a rigger, performer or teacher. You will know what you can safely (and what you should not) rig yourself, what to say to the professional riggers you may be dealing with, and how to use your eyes and ears to identify potentially unsafe situations. Finally, it will provide a number of tried and true “fail-safe” practices that can be used safely in many everyday rigging situations

New Training from APT in ETCP Recognized Controls, Networking, and Programming
For 32 years, we have used DMX to control lighting and its behavior is well known. If it fails, most techs are well versed in troubleshooting it, and nine times out of 10, it comes down to cabling or lack of termination. Now the game is changing.
In addition to DMX, we now regularly use Ethernet, Art-Net, sACN, or some other Ethernet-based protocol. If it fails, many techs are ill equipped to troubleshoot it. And unlike DMX, the point of failure can be on the physical level or in the setup and configuration. In fact, there are many opportunities for a lighting system that is using an Ethernet-based protocol to transport DMX to fail. Finding the failure can be trying.
That’s why I’ve developed new training in lighting control protocols, networking, and programming workflow. These topics go hand-in-hand and any tech who wants a future in this industry should be trained in these areas. In addition to networking, the Controls, Networking, and Programming Workflow training covers DMX, RDM, wireless DMX, and lighting console programming workflow. The console programming is brand agnostic and applies to any modern lighting console. You can use any PC-based software to work through the class and learn more about basic programming including setting up the system, testing it, troubleshooting it, as well as patching, creating groups, palettes, presets, cues, and more.
